Welcome to Tawana Land Board

Board Secretary, Ms Gabofhete Raditladi

Tawana Land Board falls under the Ministry of Lands and Housing, it is one of the twelve(12) Land Boards in Botswana. Tawana Land Board was created under the Tribal act of 1968, this act established Land Boards as trustees and administrators of Tribal land.

Tawana Land Board main office is situated in Ngamiland District, Maun. There are six subordinate Land Boards falling under Tawana Land Board, which are Maun, Sehitwa, Nokaneng, Gumare, Shakawe and Seronga. Tawana Land Board is responsible for allocating and managing tribal land in the Ngamiland District within the Batawana Tribal territory.

Ngamiland district is endowed with enormous amounts of natural resources, which include the fauna and flora found within the Okavango River, Okavango Delta, the Moremi Game reserve, and Nxai Pan National Park. As a result of these resources, the district economy, though based on livestock farming, has a strong tourism industry and protected areas. Approximately 7% of the area falls within the Moremi Game Reserve and is protected under the Wildlife Conservation and National Parks Act, 1992. A further 65% is protected under the same act as a Wildlife Management Area and activities are controlled through the MWA Regulations (2000), which allow for both consumptive and non-consumptive use of wildlife. The rest of the area (28%) is zoned for agricultural and residential development.
